i always thought that it was bad to sin but this makes it seem like there are occasions when you can lie. but then when can you lie? we are raised and taught that lying goes against God and it’s frowned upon. now this changes my perception. hmm that’s confusing

well this opens up other doors to sin in general. lust? is it okay to ever lust after your spouse? is there a difference between the “dode” and lust that a married couple share? i think by my own reasoning on the lust issue its a lot clearer to discuss firmly, but the question still remains when is it okay to lie? and if i lie, god inspired or not, should i be expecting redemtion for this sin? Rahab did…

Well, I totally thought the same things when reading this passage again this year… I wrote it down in my journal because it confused me. I asked the same exact questions you had. I really have no idea why it was okay for her to lie and then even get rewarded for it and live when the walls of Jerico were going to fall… I always thought that honesty was the best policy and that we are supposed to be truthful people, no matter what. So… maybe not? Hm.

When is it possible to sin? not, time of day, month, year, etc. but situationally, when is okay to sin? When Rahab lied to the guards to protect Joshua’s spies, wasn’t that a blatant lie? (look at Joshua 2:1-7) and then after she had lied they promise to treat her kindly, due to the fact that she saved their lives, but she blatantly sinned. And no one ever mentions this, she’s shown good favor for lying. And for what? God’s kingdom? I am almost certain that God could have kept Joshua’s spies safe if it weren’t for Rahab. but then again, they were supposed to meet her, and her story was supposed to be told in the Good Book. So what is her significance? Does it show that sometimes it’s okay to lie, sin even? This brings up a whole array of questions, like is killing okay? Does it have a purpose? And more importantly, who is allowed to? Can I if I have a good justification?
